HOWIE GERSHBERG MINOR LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Angels Minor League Pitcher of the Year award has been re-named the “Howie Gershberg Minor League
Pitcher of the Year” Award after the Angels late minor league pitching instructor. Gershberg joined the Angels
farm system in 1985 and during his tenure, served as a minor league pitching coach and coordinator. He served
the organization faithfully for 19 seasons before succumbing to cancer on Nov. 19, 2003. Gershberg’s playing
career included stints with the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants in the 1950’s. He had a passion for the
game and dedicated his life to working with and developing quality pitchers including: John Franco, Chuck
Finley, Troy Percival, Scot Shields, John Lackey and Francisco Rodriguez. Past winners:

AARON COX AWARD PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
The Aaron Cox Award was established in 2018 and is given annually to the minor league player voted as the best
teammate - one who enriches the lives of those around him. This award is for the player who best exemplifies
selflessness, persistence, enthusiasm, and commitment to a well-reasoned process and continued growth
regardless of circumstance and spreads these attributes to all those he touches. Past winners:

NICK KAMZICK SCOUT OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Nick Kamzic Award is given annually to the Angels scout who epitomizes the dedication, perseverance and
excellence demonstrated by the award’s namesake. Nick Kamzic, a Chicago-based scout in the Angels orga-
nization for 39 seasons, joined the franchise in its initial 1961 season (he proudly called himself “Mr. Autry’s
first hire”) and continued scouting for the Angels through the 1999 season. Named the National Scout of the
Year (Midwest) in 1996, he passed away from heart failure, Dec. 12, 2000, one week before his 82nd birthday.
Like the many hard-working and dedicated scouts who proudly represent baseball throughout the nation, the
following individuals demonstrate those special qualities that have earned them recognition as the Angels
Scout of the Year:
