2026 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
MIKE GALLEGO INFIELD COORDINATOR
COACHING SUMMARY
◆ 2026 represents Gallego’s 11th season with the Angels organization and third
as Infield Coordinator.
◆ He was previously Player Development Staff Coach (2023) and Major League
Field Coordinator (2022) after two seasons (2020-21) as Bench Coach for the
Angels…Served as the Club’s Third Base and Infield Coach in 2019…From 2016-18,
was the Angels Director, Baseball Development.
◆ From 2009-15, served as Athletics Third Base Coach, which included three
trips to the Postseason (2012-14).
◆ Joined the A’s following nine seasons (2000-08) working in the Rockies organization...From 2005-08,
served on Rockies Major League staff as Third Base and Infield coach...Began coaching career as Red
Sox minor league infield instructor in 1999.
PLAYING CAREER
◆ Played 13 Major League seasons with Athletics (1985-91, 1995), Yankees (1992-94) and Cardinals
(1996-97), compiling a .239 (700/2931) average with 111 doubles, 12 triples, 42 home runs and 282
RBI...Fashioned a .986 career fielding percentage at second base over 2,642 total chances.
◆ Played in four career postseasons, including trips to three straight World Series with Oakland (1988-
90)...Was a member of 1989 World Series Champion A’s.
◆ Originally drafted by Oakland in second round of 1981 Draft...Played collegiately at UCLA for three
years after prepping at St. Paul High School (Santa Fe Springs, CA - 17 miles from Angel Stadium).
◆ He and wife, Caryn, have twin sons, Joe and Nicholas “Niko” and a daughter, Ali, and reside in

Scottsdale, AZ... Son, Niko, also played college baseball at UCLA and played in 2010 College World
Series Finals against South Carolina...Niko was selected by Diamondbacks in 27th round of 2010 First-

catcher Austin Barnes.
MARA FORCEY AWARD
The Mara Forcey Award recognizes a member of the minor league staff for their outstanding
dedication to the organization.
The award is named after Mara Forcey, an Angels staff member who lost her battle with
cancer in 1993. Forcey was a model employee and friend to all.
